Top 5 U.S. Olympians to Watch in London Games

Althletes are heroes of a nation and well known and new faces will be taking part and competing for glory, pride and gold for the United States at this year's 2012 Olympic Games being held in London.

These five Olympians are masters and champions of their sport and ones to watch are:


1. Missy Franklin , World record holder in Swimming.

This teen aged athlete from Aurora, Colorado, will be setting a new record by competing in seven at the Olympics this year. That's a record for any US woman.

This young athlete has already won many medals. She has already broken records for America. For many people she is the great hope of women's swimming.

Yahoo! Sports commentator, Summer Sanders told "Good Morning America" that Franklin was awesome in every way.

“She inspires me,” Sanders, herself a gold medalist swimmer in Olympics, said. “She’s so composed. Here’s a 17-year-old, she went into trials with such pressure and expectations on her shoulders. She handled it like she’s been doing it for years.”


2.Ryan Lochte, Six-time Olympic medalist in Swimming.

“One of the things that I’m really good at is I know how to push my body to the limits that no other athlete can really handle,” Lochte has said.

Sanders thinks that Lochte is the toughest swimmer I have ever seen and he will shine at the Olympic games.


3. Allyson Felix, Track and Field Sprint Athlete.
Allyson Felix competes primarily in 200 meters internationally for United States . Allyson Felix a 26 year old Southern Californian is a two time Olympic silver medalist and with eight gold medals.

She is one of the most decorated athelete in track and field in history and she has proven she's a force to be reckoned with.

“Allyson Felix absolutely had control over the 200 meters at Olympic trial,” Sanders said. “She ran the fastest 200 in 14 years, so I think that puts her as the favorite in that event.”



4. Jordyn Wieber, Artistic gymnast in Gymnastics
Jordyn Wieber, is a 17-years-old artistic gymnast from Michigan is the winner of 13 gold medals and the World All Around Champion in 2011. She started career in gymnastics at the age of 4.

5.Women’s Soccer Team
The U.S. women’s soccer team won our hearts – and the gold medal – in at the Beijing Olympics games in 2008, and they’re prepared again for more.

Sanders says team United States is definitely “the one to beat.”

The team started the 2012 games by a 4-2 win over France in Glasgow Wednesday.
